Benjamin Hoover

Hoover

Major: Biomedical Engineering

Ben is a junior at Duke University majoring in Biomedical Engineering and pursuing diagnostic imaging and medical instrumentation. He is actively involved in RUF, one of Duke’s Christian ministries and fellowships, and SBSB, a Christian coed a cappella group. In addition, he works as a Teaching Assistant for the introductory Circuits and Design (ECE 110) class and as an RA for Freshmen on East Campus. This summer, he will be returning to his role on Duke’s iGEM undergraduate team to compete in an international synthetic biology research competition that occurs each fall.

Ben’s interest in the Boeing Fellows extends all the way back to his days tutoring sciences and math at his high school. Since coming to Duke, he has volunteered with the Physics Department bringing Duke’s own physics demonstrations to various schools in the Durham area to excite the imagination of children. The mission of the Boeing Fellowship is a natural extension to this, allowing him to work directly with local teachers to improve his confidence in planning lessons and designing fun activities around fascinating experiments.
